District Forest Officer Harbhajan Singh said: “We have already started planting trees on link roads as well as at nurseries. Of which 50,000 saplings have already been planted on various link roads — Khyaliwala to Bhokra, Kothe Sandhua Wala to Mehma Bhagwana and Sibian to Buladewala. The plantation work on the links roads are being done by MGNREGA workers under the Roadside Plantation Policy.

Ravi Chandel Bathinda, July 12 A green initiative has been taken by the Bathinda Development Authority (BDA) and the Forest Department to provide relief from the rising temperature in the future. Under a drive, around 2,75,000 trees will be planted in Bathinda district. Of which 50,000 saplings have already been planted on various link roads — Khyaliwala to Bhokra, Kothe Sandhua Wala to Mehma Bhagwana and Sibian to Buladewala. The plantation work on the links roads are being done by MGNREGA workers under the Roadside Plantation Policy. There are 17 link roads which come under the MGNREGA policy. Moreover, 25,000 saplings in each Forest Department nursery are also being planted by Forest Department workers and MGNREGA workers. The 11 nurseries of the department are located at Bathinda, Gobindpura, Goniana, Bir Talab, Jangi Rana, Bhagi Bandar, Maur, Rampura, Phule Wala town, Dayalpura and Phul. Rest of the saplings will be distributed among panchayats and government institutes which include colleges, hospitals and administration complexes. District Forest Officer Harbhajan Singh said: “We have already started planting trees on link roads as well as at nurseries. Roadside plantation trees are saplings of mixed trees, including sheesham, jamun, Arjun, neem and peepal.” Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Sheena Agarwal said: “Every government official should plant trees in their complexes so that everybody can actively participate in this drive and reduce global warming.”
